PRP Therapy

PRP Therapy at West Knoxville Medical

What is PRP therapy?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. A small sample of your blood is extracted using a syringe and then placed in a centrifuge which separates the plasma that is rich in platelets from the other cells in the blood. Platelets are important in the body to help clot blood but also contain other important proteins that help in healing the body. These proteins are called growth factors. PRP contains a high concentration of these proteins to help stimulate growth and healing in the body. The PRP is injected into injured areas found in the body to stimulate regeneration of injured tissue and to help decrease inflammation. This provides effective relief of pain and helps to resolve the underlying problem by repairing the injury.

What conditions can PRP help?

PRP is an effective natural treatment method for the following conditions to name a few:

  • Acute or chronic back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Osteoarthritis and inflammation (degenerative joint disease)
  • Sporting injuries
  • Injuries causing damage to tendons or ligaments
  • Muscle injuries
  • Recent surgery to help speed up the healing process

Effectiveness of PRP therapy

PRP gets to the root of the problem rather than just masking the symptoms. PRP promotes the body's natural healing process by stimulating the body's natural ability to regenerate tissue naturally found in the body. It accomplishes this by providing high concentrations of growth factors and collagen to the injured areas in the body. The side effects of using this therapy are minimal to none. There is no risk of the body rejecting this treatment because your own tissue is being used.
