Sciatica FAQs

Sciatica FAQ's

Sciatica is a condition that causes numbness and pain on either side of the leg and buttocks. The pain may be mild at some points and more intense in others.

If you believe you have this condition, you may have a lot of questions. We’re here to address some of the most common questions about sciatic pain, including more about the sciatic nerve, what the symptoms of sciatica are, and what the treatment options are.

What Is the Sciatic Nerve and Why Does It Matter?

The sciatic nerve travels along the spine to the legs. Therefore, when the sciatic nerve is pinched, patients have pain and discomfort in the legs.

In healthy patients, the sciatic nerve is not pinched. This only happens due to bony growths on or near the spine, herniated discs, or degenerative spine disease. Once the stability of the spinal discs is threatened, there’s a higher chance of pinching the sciatic nerve.

Which Symptoms May You Have?

We already mentioned the main symptoms: a lack of sensation and pain on either side of the leg and buttocks. It can be difficult to get relief from such pain, as lying down or sitting down may make it worse. Mobility may suffer, too.

You may also have lower back aches since the sciatic nerve reaches up here as well.

How Can a Sciatica Chiropractor Offer Sciatica Treatment?

You should see a sciatica chiropractor if you think you have a pinched sciatic nerve. They can offer sciatica treatment in the form of chiropractic care. With various chiropractic techniques, including spinal decompressions, manipulations, and adjustments, the chiropractor will realign the spine.

This corrects spinal disc positioning, which immediately puts less pressure on the sciatic nerve. The symptoms of sciatica should disappear.
